Damien Hirst - For The Love Of God

We may not pilgrim to Canterbury or Santiago de Compostela but you can make it to Tate Modern and back within the space of an afternoon. Like shrines of old this artwork has its own chapel within the Turbine Hall. It comes with a giftshop where you can buy reliquaries ..in this case postcards and key fobs. Memento mori "remember you must die" is a long standing theme for many artists since ancient cultures. My favourite art expression is zeitgeist, the belief that art is rooted in the time in which it was created. When created in 2007 I did not like this work, but I and many others have caught up and now do like it!
